Mel - I could see if my dad has any ideas. He's a high school math teacher and has been for over 30 years. He's also the math department head. Not sure if he has some new ideas for you, but it might be worth a shot!

For reflections, you could have them use mirrors.
For tesellations, you can have each student create their own little picture/shape out of an index card. Then on a big piece of paper, they have to trace the shape over and over and make it tesellate. Does that make sense??? |

My dad recommended checking out M.C. Escher art, 'cause he dealt with all that stuff and it looks really cool. You could combine that with index cards (have them pick one of his tesselations and try to recreate it or something?)

Reflections: Mirrors were already said, but you can also do paint. have them paint a letter/number (one you know will flip right) and have them fold the paper in half, and the letter will be reflected on the other side.
Translation: shaving cream, Pour shaving cream on the desk, and have them take an object (if you have some solid shapes, or box or something) and have them place in one corner, and slide it along the desk to the other. It has the starting shape, and then drags, and then you keep the same shape at the "finished product". Tesselation: Maybe something like.....have them make a picture out of tiles, or dye cuts, or something. have them group up, and take a bunch of the same shape and just make designs. Like a Kaleidoscope. |
