Question Hysterectomy

I am 41 and I got diagnosed 3 yrs ago by a nutritionist. No Dr. was willing to listen about PCOS until now. I also have a large fibroid in my uterus. I have decided to remove the uterus and ovaries. Has anyone gotten a full hysterectomy (only leaving cervix)? Did your symptoms of PCOS go away? What happens? Please let me know. Thanks!!!!!

Default I'm in the same boat...

I'm considering the same procedure as well. I have a similar diagnosis of Adenomyosis with PCOS. I will be visiting my Gyn this week (again!) and must make a decision about this. I have reservations, but eager to have some resolution.

Default check out hystersisters.com

I have been considering a hysterectomy as well, and I found the hystersisters.com website to be a godsend. I know there are threads in their forums about PCOS and hysterectomy.

Also, my ob/gyn, who I consulted about this again today, said that when leaving the cervix you risk continued bleeding from the bit of lower uterus that gets left. If I do it, I'll keep my ovaries but not the uterus or cervix.

Good luck

I had it done in Feb 2010 and it was the best thing I ever did. I still have some PCOS issues (weight gain) but the goal is to get your hormone leverl regulated which is what I am working on at this time. I would recommend this to anyone with cysts or pain. I had it at 37 and it was not something the gyn wanted to do but we felt it the safest thing! Good Luck!

Default Post hysterecotmy

I must say the only benefit after is the lack of unpredicable and hemoraging menstral cycles. Everything else remains the same. Plus, note that the systems of PCOS are just not related to reproductive organs. Along with it comes the HBP, Diabetes, Weight issues and so on. These do not stop just because you have a hysterectomy.
