Default Another Nebraskan...

Hey girls...you're not alone : )

It's nice to know that i'm not alone either...

Well...I was diagnosed with PCOS about two years ago...although I had researched and known that i had had it before i went to the doctor.

I have every single symptom...to the extreme...

I haven't been able to see a doctor up until now...because i can't afford it...and i don't have insurance.

I just saw my OBGYN and she pretty much told me that there was nothing i could do to change my situation...

but i'm going to try and find a doctor that will actually help me...

If you guys know any good doctors in the Omaha and/or Lincoln areas that I could see for PCOS...i would really appreciate it!

Feel free to e-mail me at soprano1115@hotmail.com

,Ashley

Default Glad to see others with PCOS!!!!

I am so relieved to finally find other people who have PCOS. I was just diagnosed about 1 month ago and have been on Metformin 1000mg. I lost 10 pounds right away but then gained it back and then lost 20 pounds again. I dont know if this is normal?? Before being diagnosed I tried every diet there was. I went to a couple different doctors but no one could figure out my problem. One doctor even went so far as to suggest that I should have gastric bypass surgery. I weigh 230 and weighed a bit less at that time. This is a disease I never knew about until I was diagnosed, so I searched the internet for as much information as I could find. I am so glad I found this forum. Its so nice to be able to read stories of other people!!!

The only pain that I have is when I do sit ups, I have a terrible pain on my right lower abdomen. I have always been told its scar tissue from appendectomy, but not so sure on that. So I quit doing situps and use an exercise ball instead.

I am from Nebraska also and was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago. I was put on glucophage at first. It did nothing for me but send me to the bathroom every ten minutes. I see Dr. Rees-Jones every six months in Aurora, CO. He is great!! He switched me to Actos 45 and it has done wonders for me. I have problems with weight loss as most of us do. He just recently suggested to me to take brown seaweed pills for weight loss. I haven't started them yet but plan on it.

Default Anyone near Kearney?

Hi. I was diagnosed with pcos on late 2000 after 14 months of TTC and 3 doctors. We moved to NE in May of 2001 and we had our first daughter in Sept that same year.

Is there anyone on this forum, other than me, out by the Kearney area??

Thanks!

Default You're Not Alone

Hi,

I am from Western Nebraska, between Ogallala and Sidney. I tried to get a diagnosis for what the heck was wrong with me for ten years. Now I live in Houston, and last year received my diagnosis when I found a doctor here. I totally understand the isolation that is felt when you can't find the right doctor. I'm actually trying to help a friend find a doctor in the area, Lincoln probably, have you had any luck?

Hello Ladies ~ I see many of the previous posts were from a few years back, and not sure how many are still connected here.
I've lived with PCOS for several years now, and sort of feel like I've existed, but need to seek out a different Dr. and maybe get more specialized medical attention. I've seen Dr. Christine Stevens, and have always felt comfortable there, but after trying to get more connected with this and my body, I think it's time for a change.

Are there any PCOS specialist in our wonderful state?? Also, does anyone know of a support group? I'm in the Tri-city area, Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney, but very willing to travel for Dr's.

Looking forward to connecting with others...Thanks much!

Thumbs up

My endocrinologist is Dr. Andjela Drincic of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic in Omaha, 50th and Underwood. She was the first doctor to agree with me, I do have this syndrome. She ordered labs such as two hour fasting glucose, and a bunch of blood work. But before it even came back, I was on a prescription for Metformin. I hope this info works for you.

I've never heard of a support group before in our area though.
