plugs in electrical sockets (if adopting under 5)
Locks on cleaning cabinets (if adopting under 5)
Locks on toilets (again this and previous if want a child under 5)
car seats (under 8 in PA-check your states regs)
car insurance, inspection, registration
stove works
frige temps and healthy available chioices
Emergency numbers posted by phones
computer in an area that can be monitored (if fostering to adopt)
smoke detectors (if adopting sibling group of 3 or more-must be linked tog)
fire estinguisher
working tub/shower, hot water temps, and working toilets
Water-if not a public water source (ie. well water) you must have it tested unless you plan to use spring water

This waiting game is not going to be fun. We get our TB tests read today and after that I don't really have anything. Plus they said they think it will take the full 90 days b/c they were changing some stuff as of Mar. 1 and so lots of people were rushing like us to get their applications in. By May 30th we should know something. That seems so far away!

Our second meeting with our licensor went really well last night. We went over the packet of questions that we had answered and we talked further about some of the foster care policies in Minnesota. She was at our house for two hours and it felt so short.

She is coming back in two weeks to interview us more and also to look at our house. In the mean time, my DH and I have our appointment to get fingerprinted and then we are taking a child car seat safety class next Thursday.

ndinkel: That does seem like a long time but May will be here before you know it. I am looking forward to May because that is when I am finished with my masters!

Punkin: Thanks for starting all of these threads for us!

Well, I have to say that I was pretty surprise to hear that DH had been getting somethings done yesterday. He even called around for daycare! The only thing they marked down that we needed to do before the official home inspection was to replace our back steps. We had to take them out to fix some termite damage and just hadn't replaced them yet, so there is like a 2ft drop. DH even got new steps ordered yesterday. He also ordered the magnet locks to lock up the medicine. We are using the magnets locks b/c DH is a custom cabinet builder so our cabinets are pretty expensive and we didn't want to mess them up. Other then that we just have some little stuff, like moving the paint and double checking to make sure all chemicals are put up.
TGIF!!!!

Sounds like you girls are really coming along! WOOHOO!

Ndinkel-May will be here quickly! I know what you mean though! Just hang in there. Plus-just think-by the time May 30th rolls around-you'll be just about done for the school year and can spend the time with the child. You know how busy it is in schools the last month or two so you'll keep busy!

Crystal-sounds great! You can also just get a lock box and place in the cabinet with medications.

So DH keeps surprising and has being hitting the list of things to do full speed. He made and put up the handrail for the basement. I just can't believe that in a little over 3 months we may have a child in our home. This is so exciting

So this was our list of things to do before the home inspection:

Electrical plugs in garage
Move knifes off counter
Make sure all chemicals are in upper cabinets
Baby lock for under sink cabinet
Magnetic lock for medicine cabinets-DH ordered and will install
New back steps-DH had custom steps ordered
Handrail for basement-DH made and installed on Mon.

Out of the 7 things to do, he has already taken care of the big ones(plus he called on daycare! DH is surprising me everyday!), and little ol me, I haven't even got the plugs put in the garage yet
I am thinking that over spring break (teacher) I will get all of that done and reorganize my cabinets. I am going to need a kitchen cabinet for all the "baby" stuff that is needed in the kitchen.
I was already looking forward to summer break but now I really can't wait.

We are also getting our CPR certification tomorrow.

I don't know what I will have to post about for the next 90 days

How is everyone else doing in the process?
