Default Not new here, but new here!

Hello everybody!
I'm new, but not really. I signed up a few months after being diagnosed, but really never posted anything. Not sure why, but oh well. I'm feeling like I really need to talk to people who know how I feel. I'm so tired of not feeling well and being overweight. People just assume I eat like crap and I'm lazy and it's so old. I went to an endocrinologist last month to help me get a better handle on my PCOS. She told me I needed to lose weight the old fashion way with diet & exercise. She told me to stop taking my metformin. I stopped it for about a week and a half and felt so terrible, I started back on it again. I was more determined than ever to find somebody to help me manage my PCOS. I came across a Dr in Cincinnati that is the director of the cholesterol and metabolic center at Jewish Hospital. He has done a ton of research on PCOS. He told me to increase my metformin and put me on a Vitamin D supplement. I've been on 2550mg of Metformin for a couple of days, after gradually increasing from 1000mg up. I'm already feeling better and have been able to lose 5 lbs.

I'm lucky enough to have 2 beautiful children, a daughter 14 and a son 6. I'm married to a wonderfully supportive man. I'm currently in school full time in an accelerated Masters degree program to become an RN; I'm half way through.

I'm lookng forward to getting to know you all! I'm so excited to have people around me that know how I feel!

Thank you!!!

Welcome Sue! I'm so glad you found a DR who understand PCOS and knows how to treat it. Of course you'll need to exercise and diet to lose weight but unfortunately with IR it's really hard. I would lose 1 and gain 2 lbs for years until I got on metformin. The forum is not only about TTC but better health and well being which I'm sure you need running after 2 kids! We're here to help as much as we can

Thanks Supergal!

One of the other GREAT things about this dr is they do blood work and you meet with a dietician every appointment to make sure you're doing everything you need to do. Women come from all over the country to see Dr Gleuck; so I'm really hoping I reap the benefits of the "total treatment plan" that they have going.

And BTW, congrats on your pregnancy!!

I'm so glad you decided to post! I did the same thing, about a year after I was dxed. No posts for the longest time, unless my panic attacks/depression were too much for me to handle.

If it helps, a specialist I went to recommended a book called The Perricone Weight-Loss Diet. I don't have much luck (or enthusiasm) when it comes to diets, but supposedly this one is decent. I know South Beach diet is good too, if insulin resistance is an issue. (It helped my dad a lot with diabetes.)

Hope to see more of you on the boards!
