hi ladies - i'm looking for some advice here, since i'm a nervous wreck...

i'm completely freaked out and wondering of i should call the doctor or wait and see what happens. yesterday, my sister was over and spent the whole day with us and the baby, especially the baby, while i took down the christmas decorations and cooked, etc.

today, my sister tells me that she woke up with swollen tonsils and cold symptoms. a few hours later she texts me and says that it's STREP throat!! now, she claims to not have had ANY symptoms yesterday and obviously would not have come over and played with the baby all day, but...

i'm so worried now! would you call the doc and let them know? just wait and see if the baby gets anything? i have no idea what to do!

thanks in advance for your help!

Renee -- I would call and talk to a nurse, don't go in just yet. Ask them what you should do, what you should watch for, etc. They are usually really good about stuff like that. I wouldn't freak out just yet, she may still not catch it.

I agree, I'd just call and ask what to watch for but not go in yet. Your LO may still be ok...there's been many times O has been around others who are then really sick the next day and he didn't get it. Keep us posted!

i just got off the phone with the doc. i feel better now that i called. the good news is that strep in kids under age 2 is not common. doesn't mean that she won't get it, but a bit unlikely. i just have to wait and watch for symptoms. incubation period is 2-7 days. i'm still worried since DH and i have to go to a black tie event in baltimore this weekend and saturday night is the 1st time we are leaving her overnight with grandmom. well, grandmom is coming to our house to babysit, but we will not be there.

oh well, we'll wait and see. thanks for the quick responses! i appreciate it!

Renee - Lily had strep throat when she was 4.5 months old. We don't know how she got it - Michael was sick but he didn't have it. The reason we took her to the dr was because she wasn't eating much and she was throwing up. (We think she also had the same bug as Michael because he was throwing up too). She tested negative on the rapid strep test but positive on the 24 hour culture. She's had strep a handful of times since then and we can always tell because she doesn't want to eat anything. If your baby is acting normal, I'd do like everyone else says and wait it out. Good luck and I hope she doesn't get it!

so far so good... veronica is acting normally, eating nmormally, etc. i know we're not out of the woods yet since the incubation period can be up to 7 days for strep.

tink - you're so sweet to offer to babysit peanut! thanks! if my brother and 3 sisters weren't beating each other up to babysit her first, i would take you up on it!

pjs - it hadn't occurred to me (until now) that i could get the strep too! oh geez - i hope not!

jessica - thanks for the note. i will look for a slow-down in eating.

renee- sorry to have been the bearer of bad news!! i really hope neither of you get it!

last week dd started crawling, sitting, standing in the crib and greatly increased rolling over. now it's impossible to get her down for a nap. she rolls over, sits up, stands up! anything to keep from sleeping! we need for her to learn to lay down when she sitting or standing!!
