Talking The twinkies have arrived!

The twins were born on Saturday March 27th (at 35 weeks and 2 days pregnant). Julia was 5lbs 13 oz, 19 1/4" long and Emily was 5lbs 7 oz and 19" long. They had quite a dramatic entry into the world... Julia arrived before the doctor even got there (in less than 45 minutes from the first contraction!) and Emily was an immediate emergency c-section. I woke up in the middle of the night because my water broke. We left the house immediately (because my last delivery was 2 1/2 hours start to finish) and contractions started not long after. We got to the hospital and they put me in a room and checked me at 4-5 cm dilated. About 10 minutes later, I told them I could feel the baby coming out and needed to push. They told me just to breathe (the doctor still hasn't been called) and they re-checked me. The nurse had a look of panic and she said 'it's right there' and told me not to push (if you've ever been through natural labor, you know that your body does it automatically even if you don't want to!) and I told her I needed the epidural now (because baby b had to be a c-section because of her position). She told me that she couldn't give me that until the doc came. Julia arrived just a minute or so later with no one there to actually take her out from between my legs because the nurses were scrambling to get things ready. My mom lifted the sheet and the baby started crying. The doc walked in at that point and reached up to his elbows inside to try to grab Emily but couldn't grab anything to pull her out by (still no pain meds at this point) and the anesthesiologist came in and started to ask me history questions. Contractions started up again and they couldn't find Emily's HB and then it was low. The doc said we need to do general anesthesia and the anethesiologist said we could do an epidural/spinal and I told her to knock me out and take the baby out because of the issues. She agreed after the doc repeated the same thing and I was rushed to the OR, the doc got everything prepped fast and then he said, "I'm ready when you are" and I grabbed the mask off my face and said, "I'm not out yet!" and they told me to keep breathing and then I was out and woke up several hours later in the recovery room. In the surgery, they had issues with my lungs not re-inflating properly and I was in the OR for a few hours under general anethesia. For my parents and DH it was a tense time. The hardest thing was that I didn't see either of the girls except for being wheeled past them briefly after the recovery room for at least 24 hours after they were born. I don't even remember how I found out Emily was a girl and in the frantic time between when Julia & Emily was born I asked the doctor what she was and he replied, "you don't know?" and my mom said that they were surprises and he peeked over and told us she was a girl. It was so crazy in the room though. The doctor said that he's never had a delivery like that and I was a bit of a celebrity with the nurses coming in my room days later saying , "YOU were the one that had the vaginal & the section, right?" Both girls are beautiful and healthy. We hope that they will be home from the NICU next week! I will post photos when I can.
