OMG...finally some folks that may can relate to what I'm going through....a quick history...I'll be 45 in 2 weeks....have one 18 yr old daughter, just graduated high school...have not used any contraception for 14 years...but have tried some fertilty drugs...about 12 years ago....give up on getting pregnant along time ago....was diagnosed with PCOS in the late 1990's...not over weight, pain was not that bad....the last 5-6 years pain has only been 1 or 2 times a year....my cycles are about 38-40 days...then to our surprise...we got pregnant...but we miscarried at 9 weeks.(fall of 2008)..we're both good now (hubby i mean)...but he's not giving up that we can get pregnant again...started gaining weight a little...pain has returned the last few months. (especially around what I think is ovulation)..dr. started me on metformin (3rd month now) ..lost 7 lbs so far with help of weight watchers....PMS is getting tougher...mood swings, preggie symtoms, weight changes, etc...well now, i've been feeling quizzy, very tired, no appetite, slight headache for about 3 days now...just come over me suddenly..had AF on 7/19/09 (was 44 days this time) was heavy flow for about 10 hours then it just kinda went away....hubby wants me to do preg test....we both get so disappointed when it comes up negative....anyone been on the roller coaster before....I want off....

It is so difficult to determine if symptoms are due to pregnancy or just a "weird" cycle!
I'm the one who wants to wait until I'm "late" a good week or two before testing, my DH always wants to test before I'm even "due", and will BUG me until I POAS!!!! I'm talking about "gotta pee, yet? Do you have to pee? How about now?"!!! ![]() I would say, anything's possible, especially when you are taking Metformin. It generally takes 3 months for eggs to fully develop, so 3 months on Met could have given you a good ovulation, and you could very well be preggers. The 10-hr bleed could have been implantation bleeding - or, it could have just been a strange period. I would say, POAS because both of you will be WONDERING until you do, but try to look at it as "just another test", if that helps with disappointment. I find that if I can keep from getting too wound up about it, then it's not so bad. One other thing to remember - Metformin slows down how quickly the liver changes glycogen into blood sugar between meals, so the dizziness, nausea, headache, etc. could be signs of low blood sugar. Really, you should be eating something (healthy) every 2 - 3 hours to prevent this. This strategy also helps with morning sickness, too, if that happens to be the issue! Oh, and if YOU are really past all the "baby-ya-ya's", and really only want to be called "Grandma", and not "Mommy" (granted, give it a couple of years, first!), then talk it over with your hubby, and tell him point-blank that you want OFF the rollercoaster! Be honest with him about how difficult it is on you, and how stressfull you find it. Long story short, it is YOUR body, and while lots of women have had children at your age, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's right for YOU. Good luck, let us know how it goes, either way! (((HUGS)))

Thanks sweetsunshine....the preggie test was negative....yeah there was some slight disappoint for a few minutes....but all is good. Now i'm wondering what the heck is going on with me....not sure if I need to call OB or medical dr. this nausea is really sucking the life out of me....I've lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks. now I have lower to mid back pain, dull headache and feel a pressure like feeling building behind my eyes....really weird....and a slight vaginal discharge (clear but tacky like)...and still really, really tired....and if I get slightly spooked or frienghtend...my heart starts racing as well....I thought it was a virus, but now I'm wondering....I don't get sick very often...didn't have a cold this year....so what's up ?????

I would see your reg doc ASAP. Are you dehydrated? If you've been vomiting, or simply not eating/drinking, you could be. If you are, you might want to sip slowly on Gatoraide (it has electrolytes in it that you might need). If that doesn't do the trick, then I'd head to the doc, FAST! Dehydration can get serious quicker than most people think, and there are other causes of your symptoms that might be serious, too.
Hang in there, and let me know what happens! (((HUGS)))

Bebe, if you haven't eaten much, you could have low blood sugar, and that can cause nausea, too. If it were the swine flu, from what I gather, you would be REALLY SICK, so you probably don't have that. It could be the regular flu, though. It's winter there right now, right? Australia? That would be prime time for getting the flu.
Whatever it is, I hope you're feeling better, soon! (((HUGS)))

PCOS does not cause cancer. You do have an increased risk of developing cervical/uterine cancer if you don't have a period at least once every 3 months, though, and it's been that way for several years. That means that if you do develop cancer, it's usually not until you're at least in your late 20's (although there are always some people who are the exception).
That's why it's important to make sure you have a period at least every 3 months, inducing it if you have to. Also, doing that makes sure that the lining doesn't get incredibly thick, so that when you DO bleed, it's not a major flood! At this point, I'd go to the doctor and let him figure out what's going on. Good luck, and let us know what happens!
